About

the collection

The premise for Replica Los Angeles was inspired by a photo of David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed taken by photographer Mick Rock, which I had discovered many years ago while designing my 1st solo collection. This served as a launchpad to do some sweaters fashioned as 70ʼs rock t-shirts graphically rendered in intarsia knit.

'Replica', is a tongue-in-cheek reference to my 1st go-around with this idea. Long wanting to expand on this concept, Iʼve incorporated much loved musical influences including glam rock, punk and Jamaican ska, along with a love for seminal 70ʼs London boutique/brands, Biba and Mr. Freedom, Pop Art and graphic design, into a collection of vibrant and playful fine gauge intarsia and printed sweater knits.

the designer

Born and bred in LA, designer Nathalie Saphier lived in Paris for nearly 15 years working mostly as designer in the fashion industry, while cultivating a client roster that included Sonia Rykiel,  Christophe Lemaire, Eric Bergère, Gaspard Yurkievich and Isabel Marant. During that time, she helped conceptualize the Etoile line, which she designed for several seasons in addition to co-designing the Isabel Marant collections.

Nathalie launched her first eponymous collection in 2000—a mash-up of couture sensibility seen through the glittery lens of Ziggy Stardust and Biba, with a dash of Gallic swagger. Years later, she teamed up with William B to launch a contemporary women's clothing line called JMM. The line's timeless and modern spin on vintage and ethnic clothing earned a loyal fan base among taste-makers.

During a decade long hiatus from designing, Nathalie made a name for herself as an editorial and wardrobe stylist, with her work having been featured extensively in Vogue US, Teen Vogue, Interview, V Man, Vanity Fair, as well as advertising campaigns for clients such as H&M and Capitol Records.

Since then, she's consulted and designed for A.L.C., Equipment, Raquel Allegra, BLK DNM and Apiece Apart.
